An evening among friends: RALF SCHMITZ event on Japan Day
Japan Day in Düsseldorf – since 2002, this remarkable celebration of joie de vivre has been inextricably linked with the city on the Rhine. On May 13, Japan Day celebrated its 20th anniversary in beautiful weather, with 650,000 visitors in the city. At RALF SCHMITZ, closely associated with Düsseldorf for decades, we also look forward to this day every year – but this time especially: around 90 esteemed guests had accepted our invitation to celebrate with us.
In the evening, the managing directors along with the Düsseldorf sales management were delighted to welcome numerous customers as well as their friends and families: animated conversations in a stylish atmosphere, the best company and one or two insider tips on new projects awaited the guests.

A rich selection of culinary delicacies was served by the Düsseldorf gusto luminary Saitta – from prawns with artichokes to tortellini in truffle cream and classic panna cotta.
This was complemented by two impressive tastings: The Hiestand winery delighted the guests with first-class wines from Rheinhessen. With his continuation of the family winery, winemaker Gunther Hiestand allows the vineyards on the Rhine front to flourish into the best vintner wines.
Those whose curiosity was sparked by the welcome cocktail – a fruity sake composition befitting the occasion – were given a fascinating insight into the enjoyment, history and harmony of European and Japanese tastes at a premium sake tasting by master sommelière Yoshiko Ueno-Müller of Ueno Gourmet.
For the finale of Japan Day, fireworks master Hideki Kubota made Japan’s iconic seasons emerge from the Düsseldorf night sky. High above the hustle and bustle, our guests enjoyed an excellent view of the impressive fireworks display in the traditional Japanese hanabi style: the crowning conclusion to a wholly successful evening.
